•March 23, 2007 • No CommentsThe next three will be pics of graffiti that I took in New York. This one i like because the big white person on the wall has such a nice smile, and is smiling even at those people, like the woman here, who don’t smile back.

Her Last Photograph
•March 23, 2007 • No CommentsNo matter how many times I see this photograph of this photograph I cannot help but be moved by how much this little girl’s face says about what is happening to her and where she is. It is so sad that this is the last photograph that was ever taken of this person.

The View to Freedom
•March 22, 2007 • No CommentsThese three photos are all from S21, a Cambodian prison and torture camp used by the Khmer Rouge. This picture is the view from the second floor of what was a school building, converted into a cell block, and the barbed wire covers the balcony to prevent prisoners from attempting suicide. The whole place is eerily quiet and demands respect. If you don’t know much about Pol Pot’s regime in Cambodia then please follow the link above - I am sure you will be as surprised and shocked as I was to discover what when on, and indeed how recent it was.
On a lighter note, things on the photo front are only going okay. I still haven’t managed to contact the Chambers about the display, but hopefully I’ll hear tomorrow. The problem is that I think they might be unwilling to have the display without first seeing some of the canvas prints, but at the same time I am a little unwilling to get the prints done first, since I have been doing lovely maths today and have figured out that to get 7 canvases done, including one BIG one, will cost about £450! So major fingers-crossed time for them saying yes! There are a couple of other businesses I think i might propose the display idea to, and I’m going to try and get more and more. The key in a way is this first one, because if I can get that then I can get prints done and then use those prints to get more displays etc.etc.
There is a further complexity to add to this, however, namely that I have also had someone offer to set up a meeting for me with a gallery director in London to discuss him showing a set of my canvases. The problem here is that if I were to get a set of canvases done to show to him, I would select different ones from those that I’d get for the displays. This is because for the displays I would pick a good range of shots to show the diversity of pictures that are on the website and to try to appeal to as many people as possible, whereas with the galley I would probably be better to select a more closely-related or even ‘themed’ set of shots, i.e. ones that would work well together as an artistic display, but which would be a more narrow representation of all of the photographs that I have available. In an ideal world I would obviously get two sets printed, but I don’t really have a spare £900 lying around. And I don’t have the biggest time-frame to work with because I have a chance to go to London next week and so ideally I’d arrange to meet with the gallery owner then as well so as to kill two birds with one stone (or, rather, one 60 quid train ticket). So I have quite the conundrum in front of me!
At the moment it seems to all be about phone calls - whether I can get one with chambers and whether I can get one with my friend in London, and whether the two calls are illuminating / productive! So if you are reading this then please cross your fingers for me! (or send me money!) And if you have an amazing idea then PLEASE let me know!!
Oh yeah and I also went into the brilliant little card shop in Chester today about perhaps selling them some postcards, and they gave me the name of the guy to talk to, so maybe I’ll try that tomorrow too!
